Aslin Beer Company Opens IZZI, a Pizzeria and Cafe in Downtown Herndon

Alexandria, VA | July 13, 2022 – Aslin Beer Company, the Northern Virginia brewer known across the region for its eclectic rotation of hazy IPAs, fruit-forward sours, unorthodox designs, and constant innovation announced today the opening of their new pizzeria and cafe concept, IZZI.

IZZI is the scratch kitchen concept developed by Aslin’s two co-founders, Andrew Kelley and Kai Leszkowicz, and Executive Chef Taylor Gates. The kitchen neighbors the current Aslin Beer Company’s Herndon, VA, taproom on Elden Street. Guests will be able to enjoy all items across both locations.

Also now available at IZZI is locally-roasted Aslin Coffee. Danielle “Dani” Moreno, a culinary industry vet and Level 3 Sommelier, has been working with Aslin to “normalize thoughtful coffee drinking” for all levels of coffee drinkers who prioritize their environmental impact and supporting proper labor practices in the coffee industry. All Aslin Coffee beans are roasted to order at the Herndon location. Aslin Coffee serves traditional espresso beverages, house-made flavorings, pour overs, and teas with nods to Dani’s Filipino and Mexican heritage.

“Herndon was the home of our original outpost, just a few miles from our current taproom. This town is in our DNA,” said Andrew Kelley, co-owner of Aslin Beer Company. “We are excited to bring IZZI to Aslin Herndon and hope it’s a location where our friends and neighbors can come with the whole family, any night of the week.”

The retro diner-style restaurant hosts a lounge area, an open dining room that can seat upwards of 180, and games including shuffleboard and bubble hockey. Guests will enjoy an extensive lunch and dinner menu ranging from cheese and charcuterie boards, fried cheese curds, and broccolini appetizers, to Chef Taylor’s ingenious fermented dough pizzas, to Alexandria crowd-favorites like the house-smashed short-rib-blend burger and fried Brussels sprouts. Salads, side dishes including French fries with truffles and parmesan, and soft-serve ice cream round out the menu.

Aslin co-owners and brothers-in-law, Kelley and Leszkowicz, founded the company in 2015, first operating out of a small warehouse in Herndon, VA, before opening the brewery and taproom in Alexandria in 2019, followed by the upgraded outpost on Elden Street in Herndon the next year. This June, the company opened a beer garden in Logan Circle in Washington, DC. Aslin Pittsburgh will be launching later this summer in The Strip District.
